The entrepreneurial spirit at UIC’s Dorin Forum flowed through the room Thursday evening during the recent Chicago Innovation Awards. This year’s event, which carried the theme of “CommUNITY,” marks the 23rd year of the awards ceremony. Luke Tanen, President and CEO of Chicago Innovation, Dorri McWhorter, President and CEO of the YMCA of Metropolitan Chicago, and Kevin Willer, Partner and Co-Founder of Chicago Ventures, charismatically hosted the event, where we all enjoyed an amazing time.
Chicago Innovation’s mission is to educate, connect and celebrate all innovators in the Chicago region. Their vision is to ensure that innovation is for everyone by energizing a community that makes an impact. This year, individuals and organizations within the innovation community were awarded for their programs and products, ultimately honoring the values that unite Chicago. There were 350 nominees and 100 finalists for the awards, which ranged from “Lessen Entrepreneurial Spirit Award” to the “Social Innovator Award”.
True Star Media (yes, US!) took home the “Wintrust Chicago Neighborhood Award” for empowering youth via digital skills building. We were celebrated for our innovative social enterprise that offers transformative education and hands-on training in media arts, empowering youth to take pride in their creations in the field of communications.
