True Star Co-founders DeAnna Sherman and Na-Tae’ Thompson never turn down a chance to brag about the outstanding work produced by the young content creators of True Star Media. This September, Sherman and Thompson had the pleasure of welcoming Illinois State Representative Kam Buckner and Ebony D. Howard of ELMA Philanthropies, and founder of A Queen Movement, to the True Star headquarters.
The guests were given a tour of the Bronzeville space and told about True Star’s mission to give the youth a platform to share their voice while providing real-world job experience as a step toward their careers. Members of True Star’s video production, journalism, social media, and graphic design teams proudly gave presentations of the content they’ve created for our various platforms. True Star mentors were also on hand to explain the hands-on learning process taught to the participants.
Before leaving, Buckner and Howard were even treated to a studio session where our young creatives took professional-level headshots of the guests as a parting gift.
Visits like these give leaders and would-be funders an up-close and personal look into the world of True Star so that they can see firsthand all the good that is being done by Chicago’s talented teens and young adults.
