Robert Townsend, a highly respected Hollywood film director, actor, comedian, and writer recently visited True Star Media’s headquarters where he impacted the True Star team with his presence, knowledge, and experience as a guest on this week’s episode of the “From The ‘Go Show”. Townsend is a Chicago native who became an entertainment legend thanks to over 30 years of creating classic television and films in Hollywood such as Hollywood Shuffle, The Five Heartbeats, and Meteor Man.
True Star Media Co-Founders DeAnna McLeary Sherman and Na-Tae’ Thompson hosted the tour of the True Star studio for Townsend and NAACP Chicago’s West Side President Karl A. Brinson. During the experience, Townsend got a chance to talk with True Star’s youth ambassadors Christopher Lockridge and Gary Langfield Jr. as they showcased some of the work they accomplished while being a part of True Star’s team.
Podcast hosts Kennedye Harris and Langfield had the pleasure of interviewing Townsend on the “From The ‘Go Show” where he was able to give a lot of valuable insight on his journey of becoming a filmmaker, nurturing creativity, and his pop-up film festival taking place December 6th and 7th. Townsend talked about the reason he brought the film festival to Chicago and how important it is to give back to this city and community.
“I’m from the West Side of Chicago,” Townsend said. “As I was watching the news, my heart got full. I was like, I gotta do something in Chicago. If grandmothers are out there, little kids, teenagers, and everybody is fighting for justice and the right things–human rights–then I gotta do something.”
